The first thing that you should do is call a water damage professional immediately. Secondly, move anything that is on or anywhere near the wet area(s). Placing plastic shopping bags or some kind of plastic under the legs of furniture that are wood or metal which can't be removed from the area is also a good idea. This will prevent any wood stain from running down into the carpet and creating what may become a permanent stain. This also prevents any metal from rusting and creating a stain as well. Filing cabinets and the like should be raised completely from wet carpet by placing something under the corners. Pieces of styrofoam from the box that your television came in works well. If possible, run dehumidifiers and fans and use a shop vac to extract some of the water from the top of the carpet.
